North And South
People in the Six Counties are much less healthy than people in the rest of Ireland. So much for our wonderful NHS. The average person in the south can expect to live nearly ten years longer than his northern counterpart.
In education it’s a similar tale. Young people (25-34) in the Republic who have had third-level education amounts to 55%. In the Six Counties it’s 40.7%. You’re three times more likely to quit school early in North than in the South.
In work, the Six Counties leads the way, but not in a good sense. Nearly a third of people between 16-64 are neither in education or work. They are,“economically inactive”. In fact Northern Ireland has the highest score for economic inactivity for any region in the UK.
