I am extremely concerned that David Cameron has a ruthless agenda that is not about what is best for Britain, but what is best for the Conservative Party. They want to reduce the size of the House of Commons by 50 seats because that does maximum damage to Labour. If they had proposed cutting its size by 100, many Tory MPs’ seats would have gone too. In pursuing this agenda, the Tory-led Government risks breaking up the union.

Greece Votes Yes To Budget Cuts

The Greek Parliament’s vote of confidence in Prime Minister George Papandreou shifts the spotlight back to Germany and the European Central Bank as key to Greece’s quest for further international financial aid.Lawmakers in Athens supported Papandreou in a 155-143 vote after the prime minister shuffled his Cabinet and sought the chamber’s approval. The vote may bolster Greece’s chances of securing a 12 billion-euro ($17 billion) loan payment, which hinges on support from European leaders and on Greece’s ability to push through 78 billion euros in additional budget cuts next week. It looks like the ball is now in the court of the European Central Bank and the IMF.

Sinn Fein TD To Introduce Bill To Slash Salaries Of Politicians

Sinn Fein Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty will this afternoon seek to introduce a Bill to the Dáil that would dramatically cut payments and salaries to politicians.

The Reduction in Pay and Allowances of Government and Oireachtas Members Bill 2011 seeks to impose pay cuts of up to 30% on senior office holders including the Taoiseach and Tánaiste.

The Bill also seeks to abolish outright an additional nine types of payment including allowances for group leaders, whips and committee chairs.

The Reduction in Pay and Allowances of Government and Oireachtas Members Bill 2011 would cut the Taoiseach’s pay by 30%, the Tánaiste’s pay by 28%, Ministers’ pay by 27% and the Ceann Comhairle’s pay by 36%.

In addition the Bill seeks to reduce pay to Ministers of State and other other office holders on a scale ranging from 20% to 31% and to cut the basic salary of TDs and Senators by 19% and 9% respectively.

The Death Penalty

It costs 184 million dollars more to execute a prisoner in California than to keep him in prison for life. The American state brought back the death penalty in 1978. Since then the state has killed 13 prisoners. Costing the taxpayer 308 million dollars per prisoner executed. But it has not killed anybody since 2006 due to legal issues. Would it not be better for everyone if this state sponsored barbarism came to an end.

RTE Presenters Face 30% Pay Cut

 Pat Kenny’s 2008 salary would mean a drop from €950,976 to €665,683, although the presenter has already taken a significant pay cut since he left the Late Late Show in May 2009.
The next highest earner at the station in 2008 was the late Gerry Ryan (€629,865), followed by Marian Finucane. A 30 per cent cut in her income from the 2008 peak would result in a drop from €570,000 to €399,000.

Ryan Tubridy earned €533,333 in 2008, although he is likely to be the best-paid presenter now, as successor to Kenny on The Late Late Show . Liveline ’s Joe Duffy’s was paid €408,889 in 2008. A 30 per cent cut would bring this to €286,222.
The other most highly-paid presenters at the station in 2008 were Eamon Dunphy (€328,051), Miriam O'Callaghan (€301,667), Derek Mooney (€286,809), George Hamilton (€219,833) and Seán O’Rourke (€218,656).
It is about time these overpaid pampered non-entities felt some of the pain other people are feeling. In fact 30% is to little how about a 50% or 75% salary cut.

Unemployment Is Down To A Three Year Low In Singapore

 Singapore's unemployment rate fell to a three-year low of 1.9 per cent in March - down from 2.2 per cent last December. And wages are likely to grow between 4% to 8% this year. Recruitment agencies expect job creation to remain fairly strong. There were some 54,000 openings in March - the highest number on record since the MOM started tracking the figures in March 2006. 

India Raises Interest Rate In Effort To Rein In Inflation

The Reserve Bank of India raised the price of borrowing from 7.25% to 7.5% the 10th rise since March 2010. Scotland On Course To Produce 100% Of Its Own Electricity By 2020

The Scottish First Minister has said Scotland will produce 100% of its own renewable energy by the year 2020. Mr Salmond said, "The opening of the Arecleoch and Mark Hill wind farms here in South Ayrshire is a significant milestone for ScottishPower Renewables. It also underlines both the rapid progress Scotland has made in clean-energy generation and our industry's leading role in the wider development of a genuinely low-carbon economy across Europe.
"There are seven gigawatts of renewables capacity currently installed, under construction or consented around Scotland, enabling us to exceed our target of meeting 31% of our electricity use in 2011 from renewables. It is through the leadership of companies such as ScottishPower Renewables that we have made such progress and why, as we increasingly develop our offshore energy resources, I am confident we will achieve our target for Scotland to generate from renewables the equivalent of 100% of our own electricity needs by 2020."

Israel Must End The Collective Punishment In The Gaza Strip

The unemployment rate in Gaza remains among the highest in the world in the second half of 2010, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday.

The study conducted by the organization said that over 45.2 percent of the working-age people in the coastal enclave were unemployed, a slight improvement from the 45.7 percent of unemployed in the parallel period in 2009.

This is collective punishment of 1.5 million people more than half of whom are under 18 years old. Israel should be ashamed of itself. It should end the economic blockade of Gaza now.

The Scottish Hydro Arena To Open In 2013

A new Arena for big musical acts is to open in Glasgow in 2013. The Scottish Hydro Arena is being built alongside the existing SECC and the Clyde Armadillo. The Hydro Arena will be a 12,000 seater venue. It is expected to make the Scottish economy around 131 million pounds a year. SECC chief executive John Sharkey said the arena would offer an "unrivalled programme of world-class events" complete with "iconic global artists and acts".

David Cameron Warned Against Imperial Meddling By SNP

Alex Salmond has warned David Cameron not to interfere in a Scottish Independence referendum. He says it is up to Edinburgh to organize a referendum not Westminister. A bunch of washed-up politicians apart from Alex Ferguson and Lorraine Kelly. Lets hope this campaign is a total failure although with the names attached to it I don't think we will have to wish to hard.

46% Of People In Glasgow Would Say Yes To Independence For Scotland

A new opinion poll says that support for Scottish independence is growing.
46% of those surveyed in Glasgow would vote yes for Scottish Independence. The latest poll showed 51% of voters under 24 support independence with 36% against. Those aged 25-34 were in favour by 40%, with 36% against, and 38% of the 35-44 age bracket were in favour, with 36% against. Over the age of 65, the figure is 57% against to 28% in favour.
