David Cameron Chickens Out Of TV Debate

David Cameron has rejected taking part in a live debate on Scottish Independence. Mr Cameron told Mr Salmond that he would not take part in a debate in a letter. The first minister said: "The government in which Mr Cameron serves as prime minister is central to the entire referendum debate from the perspective of the No campaign.

"I have noted the prime minister's apparent unwillingness to take part in another General Election debate and I'm sure people will draw their own conclusions from that.

"Indeed, I believe his refusal to debate Scotland's future with me can be summed up in one word - "feart".

Affront To Democracy

Angus MacNeil, MP for Na H-Eileanan An Iar, said: “Under the Westminster system, we now have the ludicrous situation that there are far more legislators who are appointed than elected - and people in Scotland elect only 4 per cent of the parliamentarians who hold powers over the economy, welfare, defence, our place in Europe, and many other crucial areas of policy.

“The UK parties nominating their own donors to the House of Lords is part and parcel of Westminster’s crony culture - and the Lords is now the second biggest chamber in the world after the Chinese National People’s Congress, which governs a country of 1.3 billion.

“The SNP’s long-standing position is that we believe those making laws should be elected by the people, and therefore we do not nominate members to the House of Lords.”

He added: “A Yes vote for independence means that people in Scotland can get rid of the expensive and unrepresentative Westminster tier - which means better and cheaper government.

“It really is an affront to democracy that, at a time of economic austerity and cuts, this lavish anachronism grows in numbers - despite promise after promise that it will be reformed. Only a Yes vote in 2014 will enable Scotland to be governed 100 per cent by parliamentarians elected 100 per cent by the people of Scotland.”

Increase In Support For Scottish Independence Among Young People

Backing for independence among voters aged between 18 to 24 years old stood at 58 per cent, according to the latest Ipsos MORI survey on voting intentions for the 2014 referendum. A opinion poll last October put support in the same age group at just 27%. The poll also gave Nicola Sturgeon on 50% a higher approval rating than Alistair Darling on 33% the leader of the campaign to keep Scotland in the UK.

Alex Salmond Favours Irish Citizenship Model For Scotland

Mr Salmond made the comments to New Zealand television channel TVNZ, which asked if Kiwis of Scottish descent would be entitled to a Scottish passport. "I think like Ireland, Scotland would want to use its global reach in the most effective way and make that sort of inclusive statement," he said. "I think it is reasonable to say that our attitude to that is more like the Irish model than the UK model. "Scotland is a population of 5.2 million people. We have a reach internationally across the world. We want the maximum entitlement to citizenship and the Irish model is one we have admired. "Of course, it has also been instrumental in some of the beneficial effects in terms of the Irish economy, so I think, like Ireland, Scotland would like to use its global reach in the most effective way and make that sort of inclusive statement."

SNP To Target Liberal Democrat Voters

Alex Salmond is to target Liberal Democrat voters who are upset by the course the party has taken. By getting into bed with the English Tory party. He said: "Many former Lib Dem voters across Scotland supported us for the first time in May, and many more did so in Inverclyde, because they are far more in tune with the policies and aspirations of the Scottish National Party than with a Lib Dem leadership in Scotland that is increasingly indistinguishable from the Tories.
"There is a rich and radical Scottish liberal tradition, whose supporters no longer recognise their party, and do not understand why the leadership in Scotland takes the side of the Tories on every single issue.
"Former Lib Dem supporters are finding a very welcome home in the SNP, and we hope they will be joined by many more in our work to build a fairer, more successful Scotland."

Vote For The SNP At The Inverclyde By-Election

This Thursday there is a By-Election in Inverclyde for a Westminister seat. Labour hold the seat with a 14,000 majority. But the SNP with all its recent success fancy its chances of capturing the seat. This would be a great coup for the SNP. So vote for Anne McLaughlin on Thursday and send another SNP MP to Westminister.

Alex Salmond And Borrowing Powers

Alex Salmond speaks out. "The Scotland Bill does not address the challenges ahead and that is why the Scottish Government has presented the Treasury with a comprehensive paper outlining proposals to improve borrowing powers in the Scotland Bill.
"There is clear agreement in the Scottish Parliament - which the Scottish Government shares - that more must be done to boost economic activity across the country, and that we must have the levers to shape Scotland's future.
"We are proposing substantial improvements to the UK Government's borrowing powers proposals. The original proposals were not fit-for-purpose, lacked long-term coherence and ambition, and would simply not deliver the changes required to meet the challenges ahead.
"The proposals for capital borrowing outlined by the UK Government earlier this month offer some modest progress, but have been developed without consideration or discussion on their suitability or affordability for Scotland.
"The Scottish Government is open to technical discussions with the Treasury on how to agree a sustainable approach to capital borrowing and our paper outlines the changes that would help take Scotland forward.

Alex Salmond Has His Enemies Worried

Willie Rennie, new Lib Dem leader at Holyrood, believes the surge in SNP support has made independence a distinct possibility. He said: "Independence could happen, because (First Minister] Alex Salmond is crafty he may well get people over the edge before they know it. He may well win it." Well done Alex for keeping all the unionists worried. Mr Rennie and his Tory pals in Government are quaking in their boots at the thought of a referendum on Scottish Independence.

A Scotland Open To All

Alex Salmond has a plan to open Scotland's borders to thousands of immigrants. It has been rejected by the Westminister Government. David Cameron and his cronies like to pose as liberal open minded people but they are not. The ghost of Enoch Powell still it seems haunts the English Tory party. Call me Dave is more worried about what the editor of the Daily Mail thinks than the welfare of people who want to come to Scotland to work hard and provide for their loved ones. The SNP want Scotland to be a modern progressive country while the Con/Dem Government in London want it to be stuck in some kind of 1950's timewarp.

Scotland On Course To Produce 100% Of Its Own Electricity By 2020

The Scottish First Minister has said Scotland will produce 100% of its own renewable energy by the year 2020. Mr Salmond said, "The opening of the Arecleoch and Mark Hill wind farms here in South Ayrshire is a significant milestone for ScottishPower Renewables. It also underlines both the rapid progress Scotland has made in clean-energy generation and our industry's leading role in the wider development of a genuinely low-carbon economy across Europe.
"There are seven gigawatts of renewables capacity currently installed, under construction or consented around Scotland, enabling us to exceed our target of meeting 31% of our electricity use in 2011 from renewables. It is through the leadership of companies such as ScottishPower Renewables that we have made such progress and why, as we increasingly develop our offshore energy resources, I am confident we will achieve our target for Scotland to generate from renewables the equivalent of 100% of our own electricity needs by 2020."

David Cameron Warned Against Imperial Meddling By SNP

Alex Salmond has warned David Cameron not to interfere in a Scottish Independence referendum. He says it is up to Edinburgh to organize a referendum not Westminister. Mr Salmond said, "We are going to do it in the timescale I indicated during the election campaign and for which we received an overwhelming mandate". He also says that the referendum question will be a proper question. He did not rule out two questions this second question may refer to fiscal autonomy which falls short of full Scottish Independence.

Michael Moore Should Engage His Brain Before Talking

Tories have attacked Liberal Democrat Michael Moore the Secretary Of State For Scotland. Saying he is out of his depth in calling for two referendums on Scottish Independence. Mr Moore seems to be out on a limb. His little solo run has got him no support. And it is only a matter of time before he is sacked and returns to the backbenches where he belongs.

Michael Moore Says Scotland Needs Two Referendums For Independence

Michael Moore the current Secretary Of State for Scotland says Scotland will need two referendums in order to gain its Independence. Alex Salmond the First Minister in Scotland does not agree with London's man in Edinburgh about this. Mr Moore has changed his mind more times than hes changed his socks so we can expect another U-Turn from him. Just like the one from Vince Cable his fellow Liberal Democrat on Scottish Corporation Tax.

A Tale Of Two Countries

A Fair Society that is Scotland opposed to a Big Society that is England. In England students will be expected to pay a backdated fee of £9,000 per year of study. In Scotland the SNP Government will meet the full cost of the bill. It has also pledged to plug any funding gap caused by Mr Cameron's reforms thought to be about £200 million. Alex Salmond also has plans to invest in the Scottish Economy by setting up more Scottish infrastructure projects. The SNP also plans to fight tooth and nail any NHS reforms coming from the Con/Dem Government in London. Two Countries that are going their own separate way no matter what happens with the Constitution.

The SNP Plans To Devolve Corporation Tax, Borrowing And The Crown Estate

The SNP have some big plans for the future of Scotland. They want to devolve Corporation Tax powers from London to Edinburgh. They also want to devolve Government borrowing powers. And they also want to take control of Crown Estates. So that the wealth and natural resources of Scotland can be used for the benefit of the Scottish people not to build shopping centres in England.
