Mitt Romney and his wife Ann paid about $6.2 million (£4 million) tax on income of $42.7 million (£27.4 million) over the past two years, according to hundreds of pages of tax filings released yesterday. The documents also showed that the Romneys, who have an estimated fortune of $250 million (£160 million) and mansions in California and New Hampshire, hold investments in tax havens such as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. They also had a Swiss bank account until it was closed in 2010, apparently to prevent political embarrassment.
